· Hamilton County ARES EC Mike, KD9BKU said ARES applications are being accepted again and he will have the forms at both the Nov. RACES and CIARA meetings. You can also email Mike at kd9bku@gmail.com. He is also looking for an AEC with IT experience.
· Ken, KJ9B announced that the Indianapolis Radio Club will hold an EMCOMM forum on Friday, Nov. 10 and all are invited to the Salvation Army EDS facility at 4020 Georgetown Road where table displays will be up at 1830 and presentations will begin at 1930 by ARES, RACES, Latter Day Saints ERC, SATURN, MARS and CERT. Additionally, Ken invited POTA operators to join them at Fort Harrison State Park Saturday, Nov. 11 starting at 1600 hrs. They will have two HF stations.
· Dallas, N9DAM, CIARA VP announced the appointment of Nate, KD9WZT, as new CIARA Net Manager. Nate encouraged more applications for both NCS and ANCS stations for the forthcoming year. You can reach him at kd9wzt@gmail.com.
· John, W9KD thanked Steve, AC9AM; Paul, W9PD, and Gary, W9ST for their assistance in lowering the HF R-9 vertical antenna at the tower site to repair a bent element near the top. The affected part was repaired in Ron, WA4EZF’s basement metal laboratory. The new element is ready for placement back on the antenna and setup is tentatively slated for this coming Friday. John also noted that the subject of this coming Thursday Hortonville Net will be the Fort Wayne Hamfest and the question for all will be “What is you most memorable Hamfest and why?”
· RACES will meet in the training room at 0800 on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Noblesville Fire Station 76 on Hazel Dell Road followed by the CIARA meeting at 1000 hours. It is important that all member attend since this will be the final call for CIARA officer nominations followed by the election of the 2024 board of officers.
· Once again, the Good Samaritan Network of Hamilton County is calling on Amateur Radio Operators on to deliver Thanksgiving food boxes to the needy around the county on Saturday, Nov. 18th starting at 0800 at the County Fairgrounds in Noblesville. Check in at the HCEM-RACES command trailer to get your delivery assignments, load up your boxes from an adjacent truck and check into the GSN net on both Hamilton County repeaters. Net control will provide full support and liaison with GSN management and county dispatch as required. Using the same format, Christmas food and toy deliveries will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 and naturally, a much larger number of deliveries is anticipated. · The 2023 joint CIARA/RACES Christmas Event will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Forest Park Inn as a pot luck social-family get together. More details forthcoming in November.
