All hams are invited to join IRC for another POTA at Fort Ben. Two HF stations will be on the air, and control operators will be available to assist Technicians or unlicensed persons with getting on the HF airwaves! An enclosed tent will be available if it is a chilly or windy day. They will be on the air as W9JP, if you want to hunt them. Learn more about the Indy Radio Club at www.indyradioclub.org.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Eclipse
April 4-8
If you are available, there is still a need for other Emergency Management volunteers for the day of the eclipse and several days leading up to it. Free solar glasses will be provided to all volunteers. Opportunities are available in the field as well as at home or on standby. We are also looking for someone with a good CB radio setup to monitor the band for traffic awareness and report any incidents that are shared over the air. See Signup Genius to get involved.
HCEM TRAINING
The following trainings are open ONLY to official HCEM volunteers.
Register for these at SignupGenius.com or click the related link in the weekly HCEM newsletter.

We will talk about and understand the operations before, during, and after a storm, and what specific information you can send to the EOC to help paint a complete picture of what is happening in our county.
Understanding FRS/GMRS Radios
Sat Mar 30, 9a-12n
Hamilton County EOC, Training Room 1
We will discuss when and why we’d use these radio services during a deployment, which channels are best for what needs, and what makes GMRS different from FRS. You’ll also learn the practical differences between ham and GRMS equipment, repeaters, and callsigns. We’ll also practice deploying portable repeaters, changing GMRS tones on the fly, and transmitting using the HCEM channel plan.
