Field Day – It’s been a busy weekend for amateur radio operators around the country. Special thanks to all those who helped make Field Day 2023 in Hamilton County a great weekend to learn more about amateur radio, enjoy the great outdoors and share this great avocation. A special thanks to Shane and the HCEM staff for the tremendous support provided to make it a great success.
And of course right on the heels of this came the storm system that reminds us of why we prepare to be able to operate and provide communications off-the-grid…a severe storm system that brought tornado warnings as it passed through our county. Once again, you responded by checking into the severe weather net to provide critical storm reports as the system traversed the county. Special thanks to each and every one of you for your service to the citizens of this county.
As we move into July, there are always more chances to serve.
July 4
Volunteers are needed in support of Noblesville’s 4th of July celebration at Forest Park. RACES members are needed to provide both voice comms and APRS coverage of shuttle busses transporting the public to and from the event. You can find a SignUpGenius and more information in the last HCEM newsletter.
License Testing July 8
The next amateur radio license test session will be held Saturday, July 8. Exams will be given for all levels of FCC amateur radio licenses starting at 1030 at the training room in the Sheriff’s campus. To register or get more information, contact kj9m@arrl.net.
4-H Fair
And once again, we will be supporting the annual 4H Fair that will run from 07/20-07/24. We’ll be set up in the air conditioned outreach tent. There you can sign-up to talk to families about preparedness, emergency communications, weather spotting, and amateur radio in public service. In order to sit in the air conditioning, there will be one tent this year. Set up will be on July 18th and teardown is on the 25th. Lunch will be provided. You can sign up on the SignUpGenius to lock in your best time.
Meetings: August 5 is the date for the next RACES and CIARA meetings – no meeting July 1.
CIARA President Matthew, KD9WFK invited net participants to consider becoming a Net Control Station (NCS) or Asst. Net Control Station (ANCS). Contact Matt or Dallas for details.
